The 2014s continue to roll in and today we have another incredible QPR on our hands. Les Carmes Haut-Brion might be the most exciting property in Bordeaux right now - and I don’t say that lightly. This is an incredible terroir just a stone’s throw from Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. It has always been a bit of an odd vineyard with a large percentage of Cabernet Franc planted, but over the past five years they have been riding an unorthodox approach straight into the top ranks of Pessac-Leognan. With the arrival of new Director/Winemaker Guillaume Pouthier, who previously worked at Chapoutier, Carmes has begun using such unconventional techniques as whole-cluster fermentation and aging in clay amphorae. The results have been stunning in the wines with wild, spicy aromatics, and a silky, smooth texture. This 2014 is one of the absolute best values in the Bordeaux section right now, a rare 95+ point wine under $60. Get it while it lasts...
